Woman of the Year!

Local Gal Makes Good!

“We’re incredibly grateful for the leadership and tireless work of Patty McCleary and the entire Smith River Alliance team. In a year like no other, we were honored to recognize a leader like no other for the North Coast Woman of the Year award,” Senator Mike McGuire said.

“Patty is so good at what she does because it’s personal for her. She’s tenacious in her advocacy to protect and preserve the wild places and open spaces that make Del Norte County so special. She’s led efforts to protect the mighty Smith River and its tributaries and she has secured vital public access on the coast and in the mountains. Patty has left a lasting impact on her community and beyond,” said Senator McGuire.

And what does Patty say?  “I am humbled by this recognition for our work in the Smith watershed and across Del Norte County.  It’s easy to be inspired and work like my hair is on fire every day on behalf of this place of great beauty and extraordinary natural resources.  I’m also mindful of the many colleagues that are essential to our collective success in our work to protect and restore our precious rivers and coastal resources.  To all of the partners who worked with me these last twenty years —– I accept this award on behalf of our efforts.  I could not have succeeded without you!”
