Background and Event Information

California Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event in the state. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people come out to California’s coastline to participate in keeping our waterways and coast clean. To see all cleanups for September 17th, follow this link to the California Coastal Commission.

In 2020 alone, over 19,000 people participated during California Coastal Cleanup Day, collecting over 180,000 lbs of debris. An estimated 4,000 lbs was collected in Del Norte county during the 2020 event.

We will be hosting a basecamp where volunteers will be able to sign-in, fill out paperwork, get supplies and drop off trash found during the cleanup across the street from Schmidt’s House of Jambalaya. We plan to host a safety talk at 9AM before splitting into smaller groups to clean up different sections of the coast.  Please try to arrive 5-minutes before to fill out paperwork.

Be sure to download the Clean Swell App on your smartphone to record everything you find! You can learn more about the Clean Swell App. We use this information to track the amount of trash and what kind of trash is found along our coast.

RSVP

Please register for the event by using the RSVP form or by emailing Gustavo at Gustavo@smithriveralliance.org.

RSVP is not required to attend the event, but it does help us bring enough supplies and snacks for everyone who is attending. Volunteers will be required to RSVP If you are a large group or school group, please contact Gustavo at Gustavo@smithriveralliance.org before the event.
